Welcome to Courtfields Restaurant & Bar. Situated at Portarlington Golf Club , Co. Laois,
Many Customers have asked where we got the name for the restaurant Courtfields. Courtfields was a catering college on Park Road in Blackpool England. The original building was a large Victorian house which opened as a college in the 50's and soon got a reputation as one of the best catering colleges in Europe. In the late 60's a further college was built across the road from the house. The new unit specialised in bakery and butchery. You would often see young trainee chefs trying to cross a busy road to get to different classes in their whites dropping their knives in the middle of the road. In the late 70's Blackpool Education Department moved Courtfields 5 miles away to Bispham and changed the name to Blackpool Catering College. This was a purpose built 6 floor college with 5 restaurants. The new building did not have the same magic about it as did the old house on Park Road. In the 90's they re-opened the house again to catering students, but after a few years Courtfields was closed for the last time and the building demolished to make way for new apartments. And yes they named the apartments Courtfields. Both Martha and John attended Courtfields Catering College for a number of years and we both have respect for the old house.
